Frequently asked questions

We currently have about 200 spots from Spain, France and Portugal. In Lineup we only show known spots, among other reasons to raise awareness about overcrowding in surfing. Each spot serves as a reference for nearby places.

Windguru shows raw data in an unintuitive design, and Lineup interprets it so you can see at a glance how forecasts are. We also use real-time buoy data to warn you if there are differences with the forecast. In addition, we continuously improve our algorithms to offer the greatest possible reliability.

Surfline works well in the USA, but in Spain and the Mediterranean it usually fails more than it succeeds. Lineup uses specific models for this area, combines local buoy data and analyzes each spot according to its real conditions.

Surf-Forecast, like Windguru, requires local knowledge to interpret its parts. It doesn't take into account the specific orientation of each spot, treating energy as the key indicator without considering whether the spot can actually take advantage of it. Lineup crosses the swell angle with orientation and local bathymetry to give you a more accurate and reliable rating.

Different data sources are used. GFS and GFS-WAVE models depend on NOAA (US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), the GWAM model belongs to DWD (German Weather Service) and buoy data is obtained from Puertos del Estado.
